US fugitive was living in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A convicted child molester from the United States has been arrested in Montreal and border agents say he was living here in Vancouver.

The Canada Border Services Agency says Steven Dyer was picked up at Trudeau Airport on Tuesday after being out of the country.  In 2002, he missed a court appearance in Arizona. He was convicted of 13 counts of child molestation and was featured on “Americas Most Wanted.”

The CBSA says in December it figured out Dyer has assumed an identity of a Canadian and was living in Vancouver.

“Through the investigation, he fraudulently assumed a Canadian’s identity. We believe he obtained the identity in 2004 and has been residing here since then,” explains lead investigator Cindy Lepur. “He has been residing in the Lower Mainland and various municipalities.”

Dyer faces a minimum 169 years in prison.
