CHARDON, OHIO (NEWS1130) – One person is now dead and four others are in hospital after a shooting at a high school in Ohio.

The victims are all students at Chardon High School in suburban Cleveland.  They are being treated at two different hospitals.

Teresa Hunt’s daughter goes to the school and says they spoke right after it happened. “The shooting took place in the cafeteria at 7:30 this morning. I know that kids were shot.”

This student says she was in the cafeteria when the shooting started. “We heard loud noises and didn’t know what is was. Then we saw a boy run into the cafeteria with a gun and he started shooting.”

This classmate describes the scene as chaotic. “We were sitting in my room and literally there was a stamped of kids.  I’ve never seen anybody run that fast in my life and I run track.  I heard a lot of people yelling and then we heard the guns go off.”

Chardon Police Chief Timothy McKenna says a gunman is in custody but hasn’t been charged yet. The suspect’s name isn’t being released because he is under the age of 18.
