Panic attacks part of most anxiety disorders, can be treated

Panic attacks are part of most anxiety disorders, but they can be treated.

Montreal psychologist Camillo Zacchia said 50 to 70 per cent of people will suffer symptoms similar to a panic attack in a given year, but most will blow it off.

Ten per cent of people suffer from an anxiety disorder.

But Zacchia points out anxiety disorders are among the most treatable psychological problems through the use of behaviour therapy or medication — or sometimes both.

Zacchia also recommends that people diagnosed with an anxiety disorder see a specialist.
