Vancouver Police Department welcomes new members

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver residents can rest assured that the best and brightest are working hard to keep order on the streets, or they will be once training is finished.

A VPD piper started things off on Thursday morning, as the 18 new recruits accepted badges in front of family.

The group of academics, athletes and humanitarians who will make up Class 137 had varied reasons for ‘answering the call of duty’.

Among the recruits sworn were teachers, community activists, and even a ballerina.

“It’s really inspirational to see so many people that have done so much already in their lives, athletically and academically. I know it will be a very exciting year,” says recruit Hannah Du Temple.

For Christopher Hudson there was a family connection. “Well my dad just retired yesterday, so, kind of passing the badge on to me, and it’s my turn for a long career, very excited.”

The recruits will now begin a year of intensive training.
