Mayor wants Port Coquitlam to be more transparent

PORT COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – Port Coquitlam‘s mayor is trying to make his government more transparent.

At the end of each month, Greg Moore posts updates on his blog on the city’s website. It’s a new initiative Moore started this year.

“I post on my blog on our city’s website all of the external meetings that I went to and the speaking engagements that I had. It allows our residents and our ratepayers to see what their mayor is up to,” explains Moore.

He got the idea from the Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. As far as Moore knows, Nenshi is the only other mayor in the country that does this.

Moore says the blog is a good conversation starter with his residents. “More social feedback online of people liking it and thinking it’s a good idea because they can actually comment on the blog about a meeting that I attended. Again, I’m trying to create more dialogue with our ratepayers.”

Committee meetings and sit downs with staff are not mentioned on the site because they happen on a daily basis.
