VPD: London can turn to us for riot help

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Police say their door is open to officers in London, Ontario after about a thousand St. Patrick’s Day rioters tore through a neighbourhood in that city.
The VPD has learned a thing or two since June, 15, 2011 and has a few pointers to share.
In London, a booze fueled crowd clashed with police and firefighters, smashing and burning police cars and setting fires. Through it all, even more onlookers captured every image and have since been posting it to social media sites.
VPD Constable Lindsey Houghton says rioters in London must not have learned from those here.
“They have already been named and identified from Saturday’s events in Ontario,” he says. “That’s prompting people to come forward and turn themselves in. When you have hundreds, if not thousands of cell phones and video cameras and people taking video footage, that would hopefully act as a bit of a deterrent.”
He says the VPD is open to sharing everything it’s learned since the Stanley Cup Riot when it comes to processing all that video, identifying suspects, and engaging the public.
Investigators in London have yet to be in touch.
