Be smart with your smartphone

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Don’t be stupid with your smart phone. That’s the warning from the Better Business Bureau.

The BBB is reminding you to secure information by putting a password on your smart phone home screen.

Lynda Pasacreta with the BBB says studies show more than 60 per cent of people don’t have a password on their phone. “If your phone is lost and you don’t have a password on it, they have access to everything you’ve got on your phone, including your personal information.”

She adds you can also get an app that will allow you to wipe your smart phone remotely. “If you lose your phone and you can’t find it, you can actually use this application to destroy all your data from your phone.”

Pasacreta also recommends making sure your operating system is up-to-date with the latest security updates, and discourages banking on your phone while connected to a public Wi-Fi network.
