SPOKANE, WA (NEWS1130) – Corbin Baldwin’s first goal of the playoffs late in the third period turned into the game-winner as the Spokane Chiefs downed the Vancouver Giants 3-2 in Game 3 of their first-round series.
The Giants won the first two games of the series at home on the weekend by a combined score of 14-8, but they got off to a slow start in their first road game of the playoffs.
Reid Gow opened the scoring for the home team just shy of the four-minute mark in the first period as he beat a screened Adam Morrison with a long shot.
The Chiefs made it a 2-0 game with 3:03 left in the opening frame as Blake Gal tallied his second goal of the series.
Vancouver got on the board early in the second period as Spokane goaltender Eric Williams was out of position and Cain Franson was able to beat him before he could recover.
In the third period, the Chiefs thought they had put an end to the Giants’ hopes of winning the game when Baldwin scored with just 4:04 remaining in regulation, but Vancouver wasn’t done yet. Giants’ captain Brendan Gallagher beat Williams with a slapshot just 1:34 later, but that was as close as they’d come.
The Giants now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1. The two teams will face-off in Game 4 on Wednesday night in Washington State.
