Vancouver strip-club almost ready for re-opening

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Workers are putting the finishing touches on Vancouver’s long-standing Penthouse Nightclub, which saw $250,000 in damage after a fire ripped through part of the upper-level of the building last November.

Owner Danny Filippone was worried decades of his family’s history were about to go up in smoke.

“When I saw smoke billowing up, I thought ‘Is this it?’ When I got closer to the building, it was roped off within a two-block radius and I was able to see the front of the building standing. At that point, I realized [we had] a chance,” he recalls.

He admits the repairs quickly turned into a full-on renovation job. “We soon realized when we took down the ceiling, there was a lot of work that had to be done to get it back up to code.”

“We looked at each other and said, ‘Let’s just go for it and give the Penthouse another new look to bring us into the next 10 or 15 years,” he adds.

Today, Filippone is giving reporters a tour of the renovated nightspot in advance of a grand re-opening event next week. He’s also helping an author finish “Liquor, Lust, and the Law” — a book about the club’s colourful past that’s expected to hit stores this fall.
