A tasty new reason to visit Vancouver Farmers Markets

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – For the first time in ten years, outdoor cooking demonstrations will be taking place at Vancouver Farmers Markets.

Market Kitchen” launches today. Ned Bell, executive chef of Yew at the Four Seasons, says it’ll be an on-site, live cooking attraction led by some of Vancouver’s leading chefs.

“The incredibly unique thing about it is that we get to choose our ingredients right then and there; then [we] whip up whatever tickles our creative fancy,” he explains.

Bell tells us on demonstration days, there’ll be signs with recipes and ingredients and at which vendors stalls to get them. “It’s going to be such an awesome opportunity to grab the ingredients right from the artisans, ranchers, farmers or fishermen that happen to be at the market.”

“In spring and summer, the markets are bursting with fresh produce; fruits and vegetables from the Fraser Valley, the Okanagan, and the artisans and farmers that are there at the markets are such hard workers. I just love to support them,” he adds.”

The event is today at Nat Bailey Stadium.

“[Then it’ll] move over to Trout Lake on Saturdays and then Kitsilano on Sundays. Then there’s little markets all over the city and all over the Fraser Valley. They’re amazing places to hang out,” says Bell.
