VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Easter lilies and chocolate eggs, if they were part of your weekend celebrations, the BC SPCA wants you to keep them away from your pets.
Chief Animal Health Officer Dr. Jamie Lawson says both can be fatal if you cat or dog gets a hold of them.
“When it comes to ingesting poison, with plants I’m particularly concerned about puppies and cats.”
Dr. Lawson adds plants can be very poisonous, but you also need to watch out for chocolate. “Dark chocolate is the worst. You know you have to look out for your kids, you also have to look out for your pets.”
Easter lilies, tiger lilies and daffodils can all cause kidney failure. Eating just one leaf can result in severe poisoning.
If your pet eats any of these plants or chocolate, the SPCA says contact your veterinarian immediately.
