SURREY (NEWS1130) – Charges have been laid in the death of a popular 22-year-old softball player who was killed in a hit-and-run crash last May.

Natasha Leigh Warren, 34, of Surrey is accused of impaired driving and dangerous driving causing death, as well failing to stay at the scene and causing an accident.

“It took a very long time for charges to be put together, and a very lengthy file was forwarded to Crown counsel last month, which was over 2,000 pages long,” says RCMP Corporal Barb Creighton. “It’s been a very long and involved case.”

Several collision analysts have been involved.

Kassandra Kaulius was on her way home from a softball game on May 3rd 2011, when police say a driver ran a red light at 152nd Street and 64th Avenue, slamming into her BMW.

Kaulius died at the scene; since then, her mother, Markita, has been a crusader for tougher drunk driver sentences.
