TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (12,026.76, up 91.47 points):
Cline Mining Corp. (TSX:CMK). Miner. Down 11 cents, or 8.46 per cent, at $1.19 on 6,884,659 shares.
Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 27 cents, or 2.18 per cent, at $12.63 on 6,231,486 shares.
Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSX:ELR). Miner. Up 0.5 cents, or 1.35 per cent, at 37.5 cents on 6,000,005 shares.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down two cents, or 0.51 per cent, at $3.93 on 4,938,006 shares.
First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Miner. Up 46 cents, or 2.18 per cent, at $21.57 on 4,681,242 shares.
Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up 44 cents, or 1.48 per cent, at $30.12 on 4,148,449 shares.
TSX Venture Exchange (1,435.12, up 4.02 points):
Pinecrest Energy Inc. (TSXV:PRY). Oil and gas. Up 11 cents, or 4.66 per cent, at $2.47 on 6,287,467 shares.
Stellar Pacific Ventures Inc. (TSXV:SPX). Mineral exploration. Up 1.5 cents, or 15.79 per cent, at 11 cents on 4,625,782 shares.
Companies reporting major news:
Astral Media Inc. (TSX:ACM.A). Media. Up three cents, or 0.06 per cent, at $48.50 on 452,899 shares. Astral beat analysts’ estimates with a double-digit increase in its latest earnings, one of its few remaining quarters before it becomes part of BCE Inc. in a friendly takeover deal. Astral said Wednesday its net income was $38.2-million or 69 cents per diluted share in the quarter ended Feb. 29.
Fibrek Inc. (TSX:FBK). Pulp and paper. Up 10 cents, or 9.52 per cent, at $1.15 on 1,296,711 shares. Mercer International raised its friendly bid by nearly eight per cent, putting new life into its takeover battle with Resolute Forest Products.
