Economic happiness among Canadians highest in Prairies

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Do you want to find happiness? Look to the Prairies! At least, when it comes to economic well-being, people’s outlook on employment and being able to afford the basics.

The attitude is just better in the West, according to a survey for ad agency Bensimon Byrne, and it has to do with the healthy resource-based economy — except in BC.

So News1130 is asking if you would cross the Rockies to find happiness.

“I grew up on an acreage in Alberta. It’s like Canadian Texas — Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba. It’s a dead zone,” says one man, who adds he’s convinced a lot friends to move to BC after pulling up his Prairie roots.

“Even with the economy, I couldn’t give up the Coast for five months of winter,” laughs an ex-Saskatchewaner.

Excerpts from the survey, conducted by The Gandalf Group and listed in today’s Globe and Mail, suggest optimism about the economy and personal finances is 20 per cent higher in the Prairies than elsewhere in Canada.
