Whistler U? Could be a reality in the resort town

By

WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – Whistler is great for visiting and playing, but what about learning? If everything goes according to plan, the resort town could be home to a $300 million private university very soon.

Doug Player, the man behind “Whistler U,” says they are ready to go, it just now depends on city approval. He feels it could bring a ton of opportunities to the resort town and other post secondary places like BCIT and UNBC.

“They would bring some very interesting programs to Whistler. With BCIT for example, with their tourism programs, they would get real work experience in this environment where the real thing is happening.”

There are plans for campus housing and says this could protect the area from being hard hit when tourism numbers are down.

“The first benefit is diversifying the economy here, we are ready to go as soon as they give us approval and have students here pretty quickly because BCIT and UNBC could offer the programs.”
