Durham Police charge three men in month-long fraud investigation

Durham Police have three men under arrest following a month-long investigation into counterfeit bank accounts.

Police allege the suspects recruited people to open multiple bank accounts at numerous financial institutions across the GTA, using fake I.D.’s.

Funds withdrawn from the accounts came from deposited cheques which were altered and stolen.

Investigators said two of the accused were also allegedly involved in a mass marketing operation, in which fraudulent letters were mailed out to unsuspecting victims.
