Clark warns against split vote after byelection losses

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Christy Clark says she will not step aside.  Despite two by-election losses yesterday, the premier is confident she can bring BC’s centre-right voters back together.

Christy Clark admits there are lessons learned from the losses.  “And I think for my government, I think the lesson is principally that we need to be listening to British Columbians.  We’ve been working hard to listen, but we have to redouble our efforts,” she says. “And we need to remind people what their government is doing: lowering taxes, managing the economy, looking after the most vulnerable in society.”

Clark says, however, she’s not prepared to merge with the BC Conservatives. “I don’t think British Columbians respond very well to back door deals,” she says.

And Clark does not believe another person will strengthen the centre-right, so instead she’s planning a provincial tour to urge those leaning toward the Tories, not to splite the vote.

“I am the leader of the free enterprise coalition of this province and I’m going to lead us into the next election,” Clark proclaims.  “We are going to reach out and talk to every single person that we can about the risks of an NDP government in British Columbia.”

She warns a split vote sets up the NDP for a landslide win.  “I don’t think that’s what people want,” she adds.
