Patrick deWitt adds Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour to list of award wins

ORILLIA, Ont. – Multiple book prize winner Patrick deWitt can now add the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour to his resume.

The author of “The Sisters Brothers” was announced Thursday as the winner of the annual award, which has been handed out since 1947.

DeWitt, who also won the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction and the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, gets $15,000 for the Leacock award.

The other shortlisted books up for the award were Susan Juby’s “The Woefield Poultry Collective,” Rupinder Gill’s “On the Outside Looking Indian,” Shari LapeIna’s “Happiness Economics” and Robyn Michele Levy’s “Most of Me.”

An award dinner will fete deWitt on June 9.
