Whitecaps face Crew in only meeting of the season

COLUMBUS, OH (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps and Columbus Crew will battle tonight in their lone meeting of the MLS regular season, as the ‘Caps look for a second straight victory.

After starting the season with two wins, followed by two draws and then two losses, Vancouver got back on track with its last game. The ‘Caps earned an important 1-0 victory over FC Dallas last Saturday.

The Crew are looking to pull out of a slump that has seen them go without a victory in their past three games. Prior to a 2-2 draw with Houston last Saturday, Columbus dropped a 4-1 decision to the New York Red Bulls on Apr. 7, followed by a 1-0 loss in Philadelphia on Apr. 14.

The Whitecaps will likely have midfielder Michael Nanchoff available for the game after he suffered a heel injury in the pre-season. Nanchoff is an Ohio native and will have more than 500 supporters at the game.

“I don’t know if I want to put a percentage mark on it in terms of chances, but I feel good and I’m pushing as hard as I can to earn that spot,” says Nanchoff.

The ‘Caps will once again be without striker Darren Mattocks. Left fullback Alain Rochat (knee) and striker Camilo Sanvezzo (quad) are listed as questionable.

Kick-off is at 4:30 p.m. and can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet Pacific.
