New loonies, toonies don’t work at TransLink ticket machines

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You might have been one of many TransLink passengers who put new, lighter coins into a ticket vending machine only to have the money not register.

The transit authority says it’s also frustrated.

“We had asked for some samples [from the Mint] ahead of time to make sure they work. Apparently, we didn’t get them. Now we’re working with our supplier to get a fix in the works so that we can get these coins accepted,” explains Drew Snider with TransLink.

He adds the work is hoped to be done soon. “What our supplier is working to do is get at least one ticket vending machine working in each station.. we hope, by the end of next week.”

In the meantime you still need proof of payment. You’ll have to use different coins or stick with debit or credit.

TransLink isn’t alone; all sorts of machines have been affected, including parking meters and shared laundry facilities.
