French President Sarkozy tells ministers not to be sad, bitter in last cabinet meeting of term

PARIS – French President Nicolas Sarkozy has told his ministers not to be sad or bitter in an emotional last cabinet meeting of his five-year term.

Many of the ministers are now facing their own election campaigns in June’s parliamentary elections.

After Wednesday’s meeting, Commerce and Tourism Minister Frederic Lefebvre said the conservative UMP party would be looking to “reconquer” the parliament after losing the Elysee Palace to Socialist Francois Hollande.

Hollande is already throwing himself into the job, notably preparing for NATO and G8 summits in the United States at the end of the month.

On Thursday, Hollande will discuss the euro crisis with Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, who also chairs the meetings of the eurozone’s finance ministers.
