Group argues Cactus Club exit at English Bay is a hazard

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s a battle brewing in English Bay between patrons of a popular beach-side restaurant and other people who jog, rollerblade, and ride bikes in the area.

As the weather heats up, things could get ugly, according to Christine Ackerman with the West End Residents Association. She thinks Cactus Club patrons spilling out in front is dangerous to cyclists and rollerbladers.

“It’s a bike path, so they’re coming through there. Yes, they’re slowing down a little bit to check for pedestrians, but it’s a very big problem with congestion being allowed to go right into the bike path,” she explains.

Ackerman tells us she was in the area the other day and saw a crowd of restaurant-goers colliding with other traffic. “A near-accident with a baby stroller.”

“We want to see them channel the customers to the side of the building rather than directly onto the bike path,” she adds.

The Vancouver Park Board and the eatery are addressing the issue.
