Valli and Foster get new contracts with the Lions

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC Lions are set to announce contract extensions for offensive lineman Dean Valli and receiver Akim Foster which will keep the two players off of next year’s free agent market.

Valli, taken by the Lions in the 2006 Canadian College Player Draft out of Simon Fraser University, was a big part of the Lions depth during their 2006 Grey Cup run and will enter his seventh season with the Lions.  The North Vancouver native has bounced back from a broken leg suffered in 2010 to become a versatile player on the Lions’ offensive line.

Foster is entering his third season with the Lions after a brilliant college career at St. Francis Xavier. The Ajax, Ontario native caught six touchdown passes and put up 593 yards receiving in 2011, his sophomore season in the CFL.

Signing this year’s top draft picks is proving to be a tougher chore. Lions general manager Wally Buono tells News1130 Sports that the club is having trouble signing linebacker Jabar Westerman and offensive lineman Kirby Fabien.

BC Lions Training Camp is slated to begin on Sunday, June 3 in Kamloops. The Lions will stage a three-day rookie camp from Thursday, May 30 to Friday, June 1 before veterans report on Saturday, June 2.
