Cheerleading musical 'Bring it On' heads from Toronto to Broadway

TORONTO – Cheerleading spectacle “Bring it On: The Musical” is about to cartwheel from Toronto to Broadway.

The stage show, about a high school cheerleading squad, is currently playing at the city’s Ed Mirvish Theatre.

Mirvish Productions says it’s due to begin previews at New York’s St. James Theatre on July 12, with opening night scheduled for Aug. 1. The show is set to close Oct. 7.

“Bring it On: The Musical” features a libretto by Jeff Whitty (“Avenue Q”), music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“In the Heights”) and music by Tom Kitt (“Next to Normal”).

The entire cast of the hit touring production will continue in their roles on Broadway.

The show launched a 13-city tour in Los Angeles on Oct. 30. The Toronto run wraps June 3.
