NEW YORK, N.Y. – Soprano Karita Mattila has withdrawn from the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball).”

The Met said Thursday she will be replaced as Amelia by Sondra Radvanovsky, who will make her Met role debut in the David Alden staging, which opens Nov. 8.

Radvanovsky is being shifted from Elisabetta de Valois in a revival of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” that opens Feb. 22. The Met has not announced a replacement as Elisabetta.
