MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – Pet owners in Maple Ridge are still on edge as police and the SPCA continue to hunt for whoever is responsible for a series of sickening cat mutilations.

Today, we’re hearing from someone who actually found one of the dead felines.

Francine Bearpark works at a local coffee shop in Maple Ridge. She was out walking her dog in Hammond Park one day when she discovered a dead cat.

“I noticed a cat on the ground and I actually, at the time, hadn’t heard about the cat killings,” she admits. “But I knew that there were raccoons in the park so I thought maybe it was a raccoon that did it. But I took pictures anyhow.”

What she discovered was disturbing.

“The skin was gone on the face and it looked like it was sort of posed to be facing a motor home on the other side of the chain link fence,” describes Bearpark.

Cat owners living between 217th and 230th Streets and from 128th Avenue to Lougheed are urged to keep a close eye on their pets.

The SPCA reports two dozen mutilated cats have been discovered in Maple Ridge since last June. Seven of them have been found in the past week alone.

Anyone with information is urged to contact them immediately.
