Removing range anxiety surrounding electric vehicles

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a fear many potential electric car owners have: running out of juice before they can plug it in for a charge.

Now, Metro Vancouver is doing something about it. The regional district is applying for provincial funds to build six to eight new public charging stations.

Dealers say this is always welcome news when money is spent on beefing up electric vehicle infrastructure.

“A lot of folks worry about ‘Where am I going to plug in my electric vehicle when I buy one of them'” explains Blair Qualey, president and CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of BC.

“Everybody worries about whether or not they’ll be able to get home safely without winding up at the side of the road. The infrastructure really helps to make sure that people understand that there will be places, should you need to charge your vehicle, those will be available,” he notes.

That is, if these charging stations will be made possible by Victoria’s “Community Charging Infrastructure Fund” announced in April.

Qualey tells us 133 electric vehicles have been registered in BC since the province rolled out its Clean Energy Vehicle incentive in December.
