TORONTO, ON (NEWS1130) – Canada’s national men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Honduras in World Cup qualifying, giving the Canadians four of a possible six points to begin the semifinal stage.

Canada was playing its second game in the second round of the CONCACAF qualifying following a 1-0 win over Cuba on Friday.

The Canadians had the majority of scoring chances in the match but were unable to find a finishing touch. David Edgar had a pair of headers just miss the target, one in the 67th minute and another early in second-half injury time.

Canada is in second-place in its four-team group with four points through two games. It trails Panama (six points) but leads Honduras (one point) and Cuba (zero points). The top two teams in the group will move on to the final round of qualifying.

The Canadians are now off until September when it plays a home-and-away with Panama. They’ll wrap-up the stage with rematches against Cuba and Honduras in October.
