How to financially prepare for your next vacation

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Save, save, save! One financial expert says there is no such thing as being over prepared as many of you plan your next summer vacation.

Coming up with a budget for your trip is tops on the list. That’s followed by telling your bank and notifying your credit card company you’ll be away — so they’re in the loop as well.

“What happens with credit card companies, if they notice a change in pattern in their spending habits, it raises red flags for them and they could potentially limit your ability to access your card,” says financial expert Linda Put.

She adds that it’s smart to prepare for the unexpected.

“Make sure you write down the permanent phone numbers for credit card providers and financial institutions so you can quickly call to cancel your card,” she stresses. “Make sure you write down passport numbers and the number for the Canadian Consulate.”

Also be sure to invest in travel insurance and get any foreign currency before leaving.

And if you’re away for a while — automate your bill payments.
