More pressure for Trudeau to run for Liberal leadership

OTTAWA, ON (NEWS1130)  – “Run, Justin, run!”

There are more calls for Justin Trudeau to follow in his dad’s footsteps and take over the leadership of the federal Liberals.

An Angus Reid Public Opinion poll done for the Toronto Star finds voters are ready for the late Prime Minister’s son to step up, even if he’s not.

Forty-two per cent think he would do a good job, way ahead of Quebec MP Marc Garneau at 23 per cent and Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney at 15 per cent. But one expert warns at the end of the day, it’s just one poll.

“With the race not really even starting, it’s not surprising that Justin Trudeau is going to come out on top, we won’t know if it’s his time until the actual race begins, that’s when we’ll start to see some of the opinions firm up and of course it could turn out that his campaign could fizzle quite quickly,” says York University Political Scientist Dennis Pilon.

He adds the party would do well to define what it’s about rather than focus exclusively on personality-based politics as its way out of the wilderness.
