VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Everyone loves a good list, don’t they? Maclean’s first-ever book of lists is 196 pages of ‘listy goodness!’
It has everything from Justin Trudeau’s favourite places to swim to the top 10 things the Littlest Hobo did that a dog probably shouldn’t be able to do.
You could call it “Uncle Maclean’s Bathroom Reader.”
“If it’s not next to the toilet in many a house across the nation, I’ll be kind of disappointed. That’s really the goal,” says Senior Editor and Listmaster General Jason Kirby.
So, why are we so fascinated with lists anyway?
“I think part of it is in a complex world, you’re bombarded with information. It’s really just a handy way to order everything and make it digestible,” he explains.
One of his favourite lists is unlikely jobs held by prime ministers before they came into power.
“Kim Campbell worked at a fish packing plant, Brian Mulroney was a boy singer, Jean Chrétien was a black market chocolatier when he was a kid, and John Diefenbaker sold bibles door to door,” outlines Kirby.
Then there’s the list of strangest items left at Canadian transit stations.
“Things like bandsaws, a human organ, full sets of dentures, pets, just really odd items!” he exclaims.
We also can’t forget 10 foods Canada has given the world, Canada’s six sexiest atheletes, and eight Canadian sitcoms that sucked. There are 253 lists in all.
The special edition comes out just in time for Canada Day.
