Foodie Friday: A look at events on Canada Day

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canada turns 145 this Sunday and there are at least two great ways to keep your stomach full!

The 67th Steveston Salmon Festival kicks off bright and early in Steveston Village in Richmond.

“The day kind of kicks at 6:30 a.m. for their pancake breakfast,” explains Mijune Pak from Follow Me Foodie. “And then at 10 a.m., there’s going to be a parade. In the afternoon, which is kind of what they’re most known for, is going to be their big salmon barbeque.”

Every year, the festival brings in 1,200 pounds of fresh, wild BC sockeye salmon which gets barbequed over a big fire pit.

Vancouver’s food truck scene is getting bigger and better.

On Sunday, the Waldorf Hotel on East Hastings is hosting a block party, featuring a lot of food trucks!

“Some of them are La Brasserie, Soho Road, Tacofino, Off the Wagon, Re-Up, The Juice Truck, Mom’s Grilled Cheese… a whole bunch of them are going to be there!” Pak tells us.

It’s a great chance to try all of Vancouver’s mobile eats in one spot.

Have a happy Canada Day weekend!
