BC Day long weekend expected to be a scorcher

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Welcome to August! Turn the page on the calendar, and prepare to keep the fan on!

News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate is giving us a glimpse of what’s in store for us this month.

“In the big-picture view of things over the next four to six weeks, I think the temperatures won’t necessarily be that much above average, much like July was. Warm but not hot.”

However, Russ says it’s expected to be unusually dry. “Our rainfall amounts in the month of July were 30 per cent below average; I see that trend continuing right through the second half of the summer season.”

“It’ll cloud over a bit today, but it stays bright and dry into the afternoon for a high of 22. There’s no rain for this evening’s fireworks, but lots of cloud cover,” he explains.

If you’re looking for a little more in the way of heat, it shows up in Russ’ forecast in time for the long weekend.

“Tomorrow, we have a fine-looking afternoon with blue skies, 23 degrees. The heat will get turned up on Friday afternoon. That sets the stage for 30-degree temperatures right through the middle of this long weekend,” predicts Lacate.
