NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A 56-year-old man from North Vancouver is in a drug-induced coma after someone threw camp fuel on him and set him on fire on the weekend.

The man is badly burned but he’s expected to live.

Cpl. Richard De Jong says the victim was in a drunken fight with another man on Saturday afternoon on Old Lilooet Rd. in North Vancouver.

“He’s in an extreme amount of pain and his recovery will be a long process,” he says. “Most of the burns were to the face, neck and upper body, where the fuel was thrown on.”

The man was left with burns on more than 50 per cent of his body.

A 34-year-old man has now been charged with attempted murder and will be appearing in court tomorrow.

De Jong says they’ve talked to lots of witnesses.
