Divers with Great Cdn Shoreline Cleanup at Cates Park today

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You probably have a good idea what you throw out. But do you know what gets thrown into the water just off local beaches?

Divers with the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup are hitting the water off Cates Park in North Vancouver this morning.

“A few years ago when we did one in Toronto, they pulled up a hot dog cart. I think a car was also found!” recalls Jill Dwyer with the Vancouver Aquarium.

“I think at Cates Park, what we’re likely to find is probably derelict fishing gear… I’m guessing maybe pairs of sunglasses, cell phones. it’s kind of the exciting part of the event. We really don’t know what they’re going to find!” she adds.

Dwyer tells us the objective is to clean up the water, and bring more attention to the environment and what we’re doing to it. The nation-wide shore clean-up happens next month.
