Public karaoke takes over downtown Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s was a lucky day for those who like to sing it from the rooftops – or the middle of downtown. A free karaoke kiosk was set up in Robson Square for anyone to use.

The giant red karaoke machine offers thousands of songs in seven different languages – which means, it drew a diverse and vocal crowd.

Simon Wong with Vancouver Public Space Network, the event’s operators, says the free gathering was meant to bring together strangers in a harmonious way – even if they sang off key

“People are gathering around to watch people sing on the street,” he says. “There’s so many different languages and cultures in Vancouver, and what they all share in common is the love of music.”

The kiosk was designed and produced by Urban Republic Arts Society.

The event will run again next Sunday.
