Police identify victim in Toronto-Mississauga body parts case

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Peel police have identified the victim of the Toronto and Mississauga body parts case as Guang Hua Liu, 41, a single mother of three children, from Scarborough, Ont.

Liu, who owned a spa — Forget-Me-Not Health Care, at 2466 Eglinton Ave. E., near Kennedy Road — was last seen late-afternoon on Aug. 10 at her workplace and was reported missing the next day.

Neighbours told CityNews the woman was quiet and kept to herself.

“She just came in and out from her car. That was about it,” one woman said.

Another neighbour said Liu had a boyfriend and a tenant lived in the basement of her home.

Police are treating her death as a homicide.

Peel police Const. George Koekkoek said investigators do not have a suspect in the case.

“We have executed search warrants, but these are all in relation to identifying the victim. We are working on suspect information,” Const. Koekkoek said.

Investigators have not recovered all of Liu’s remains, nor have they determined a cause of death, but do they believe this is an isolated incident.

Peel police said it will continue to work with Toronto police in the investigation.

Search warrants were executed in both Toronto and Peel region after investigators established a link between the human remains discovered in a Mississauga park and a Scarborough ravine.

Based on evidence and information collected so far, search warrants were issued for numerous locations in both jurisdictions.

One of the places searched by police was a room at the Scarborough Inn, at Kennedy Road and Sheppard Avenue East. The hotel is located close to the ravine area where body parts were found over the weekend.

The room searched had been occupied by a man who checked in very early Saturday morning and checked out about an hour later.

Remains found in Scarborough over the weekend were confirmed as human on Monday.

The body parts recovered were an arm, two calves and a thigh.

Police said these remains have “obvious similarities” to the discovery of a head, a foot and two hands found in Mississauga’s Credit River last week.

“Somehow parts of a person body have been discovered in two different locations, and from what we believe it’s the same body,” said Sgt. Brandwood.

The new human remains were found over the weekend in Scarborough — one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

On Saturday, a man came across remains while looking for golf balls at the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, near Birchmount Road and Sheppard Avenue East, while on Sunday, a suspicious-looking plastic bag was found in a creek near Kennedy Road and Sheppard Avenue East.

Meanwhile, Peel Police has confirmed they have completed their ground search. The investigation will be moving forward with search warrants and other investigative tools.
