RCMP view Agassiz hang-glider footage

AGASSIZ (NEWS1130) – Investigators have been able to look at the contents of a memory card that may contain a video recording of a deadly hang-glider flight in Agassiz.

Pilot William Orders is accused of swallowing the card after 27-year-old Lenami Godinez-Avila fell to her death while they were on a tandem flight.

Cst. Tracy Wolbeck says police seized a memory card from Orders’ jail cell after he was arrested, but she can’t say exactly what is on it before he goes to trial.

“The RCMP Serious Crime Unit in Agassiz has viewed the contents of the video card that was attached to Mr. Orders glider at the time, and we are not in a position at the moment to discuss the contents [of the card].”

Orders has been charged with obstruction of justice and will go to trial in April, almost exactly a year after Godinez-Avila died.

A report on the victim’s death found her harness wasn’t connected and the pilot may not have been paying attention.
