VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – An accountant and his business partner are a little poorer after they pleaded guilty to tax evasion.
When it’s all added up, chartered accountant Martin Johnson and his partner Celia Martin will have to pay $140,000 in fines and do 80 hours of community service.
They appeared in provincial court in Vancouver earlier this week where they admitted to using three companies and a family trust to avoid paying income tax and GST.
One of the companies took in a little less than $1.2 million in fees. It then brought in $80,000 in GST when a donation was made to a university.
The CRA says that all went unreported.
