Olympic Village starting to see some hustle and bustle

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The opening of the second anchor store at the Olympic Village has given new life to the area, which was once branded as a ghost town.

London Drugs opened its doors in the area today and the area is starting to become what was first promised: a walkable, active area filled with people.

Marketer for the Village Bob Rennie says the new shops put the finishing touches on what people are looking for: a community.

“When you come down to the village, the plaza’s animated, people are sitting, they’re drinking coffee, they’re in the Tap and Barrel… it’s a very livable community. It is a sort of a ‘walk-to-life’ community,” he adds.

Rennie tells us the variety of retailers have helped attract condo buyers.

“We sold 28 [condos] since July 15th. With London Drugs opening, and Urban Fare, I have really watched my numbers as the village is populated. Now when you come down to the village, the plaza is animated, people are sitting drinking coffee.”

Rennie says the village has a new swing in its step and the area has come together into a “walk-to-life community.”
