SAANICH (NEWS1130) – A Vancouver Island man is facing possible charges after police say he spit on an officer.

Police first responded to reports of a fight at a wedding around 1 a.m. today in Sidney. A 28-year-old man was being questioned by officers when his mother arrived. The man jumped his mom’s car, driving to his parent’s home in Saanich.

The suspect left his ID and phone with police before he fled from Sidney.

About an hour later, the man’s father called police to report his son was drunk and out of control.

When police arrived, the suspect was agitated and resisting arrest. Police say he tried to bite one of the officers twice, while also spitting in another officer’s face.

The arrested man was held in police custody overnight. He is facing possible charges for assaulting a police officer and breaching his previous bail conditions.

Neither officer was injured in the arrest.
