Thunder struck down in Game 5 of the Mann Cup

PETERBOROUGH, ON (NEWS1130) – Peterborough has won three straight games at the Mann Cup, taking Game Five, 9-5 over Langley. The Thunder were up 4-0 after the first period, but the Lakers scored seven straight in the second.

Shayne Jackson had a goal and two assists in the opening frame to help give the Western Lacrosse Association champs the four goal cushion. after 20 minutes.

The host side blew it open with seven unanswered goals in the middle period, as veteran John Grant had a goal and three assists in the frame for Peterborough. The Lakers outshot the Thunder in the period 23-13.

Peterborough goalie Mike Thompson made 43 saves and was named player of the game. Langley’s Brodie MacDonald made 39 saves at the other end.

Garrett Billings and Athan Iannucci also had a goal and two assists for the Thunder, who have dropped three straight games in the series.

Peterborough can wrap up the National Lacrosse title on Saturday. If Game Seven is required it will be played on Sunday.
