Occupy movement marks first anniversary

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It was one year ago today we first heard the phrase, “We are the 99 per cent.”

The “Occupy” movement is marking its first anniversary with protests planned in New York City and more than 30 other cities.

Today at 5 p.m., Occupy Vancouver protesters will gather at the federal offices at Georgia and Hamilton to, in their words, send a message to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

It’s part of a national event dubbed “Holding Hands Across the Land for Democracy,” happening in 14 cities across Canada.

The first anniversary of the movement happens to fall on the same day the House of Commons resumes.

It’s also to put Enbridge on notice, as the group feels the energy giant is part of the so called one percent.

Parliament Hill will also be the site of a march and protest today.
