Former cabinet minister to lead Liberal election campaign

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – The BC Liberals have a new campaign co-chair heading into the May election and it’s a familiar face. Colin Hansen will take on the job after announcing Friday he’s not seeking re-election.

Hansen says with the NDP in a clear lead, it’s not going to be an easy election to win. “But we are in a strong second place and the Conservatives are showing at 12 per cent.”

He feels as we get closer to May, voters will really weigh their options. Hansen believes they’ll compare the Liberals’ 12 year track record with the policies of the NDP and Adrian Dix, both past and future.

“A very successful track record of a BC Liberal government over the past 12 years in terms of economy and job creation, and the other thing is people will start to compare what Adrian Dix stands for and the kind of government he would lead as opposed to the kind of government Christy Clark leads.”

As for Hansen’s strategy, he says the Liberals need to get out and meet their constituents.

“In the four campaigns that I ran in Vancouver-Quilchena, I relied on voter contact, knocking on doors, meeting people face-to-face, and talking to them about issues and I think that’s the best way to win elections.”

Hansen has held the Vancouver-Quilchena riding for 17 years.
