Emmy king ‘Homeland’ exclusive to specialty service Super Channel

TORONTO – It’s the hottest show on TV, and yet most Canadians have likely only caught a glimpse of “Homeland” through splashy U.S. awards shows.

The breakout political drama was this year’s surpise winner at Sunday’s Emmy Awards, scooping up prizes for best drama, best writing and best acting trophies for stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis.

It was a triumph that likely left many Canadian TV fans scratching their heads over where to catch Showtime’s terrorism serial here.

Turns out the series is exclusive to Super Channel, a national pay service that charges a premium and has struggled to build a subscriber base against bigger rivals HBO Canada, Movie Central and The Movie Network.

TV fans can also catch Season 1 of “Homeland” on DVD.

“Homeland” returns for its second season on Super Channel on Sept. 30, day and date with its Showtime premiere in the U.S.

It will be preceded by a Season 1 marathon on Sept. 29. The entire first season is also available on Super Channel on Demand until Sept. 30.

Super Channel is available on Bell TV, Shaw Direct, Rogers PersonalTV, Shaw Cable, Cogeco Cable, Access Communications, Bell Aliant TV, Source Cable, SaskTel, MTS, Novus, EastLink, TELUS and other regional providers.
