North Vancouver’s oldest hotel and bar closing Sunday

By

From shipbuilders to bridgemakers, longshoremen to fishermen, generations of blue collar types have bellied up to the bar at North Vancouver’s Lynnwood Pub.

But after this Sunday, the weathered watering hole at the north end of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge will be no more.

Chris Cotton has been the general manager there for just over 23 years.

He points out the building needs extensive work, and the regulars certainly aren’t getting any younger, but he admits it’s still hard to let go.

“I’m looking back and I’m realizing I’ve got ’til Sunday and then next week we’ll be in here cleaning up and by the Friday the 5th I’ll be finished.  So it’s, it’s starting to hit home right now,” he explains.

Owner Andrew Priatel agrees.

“I think it’s only started to hit home in the last week but yeah, you know, seeing how customers react and how staff have reacted…it’s changed my perspective so I’m a little bit sad now too.”

He figures the Lynnwood is the oldest pub and hotel on the North Shore.

It’s giving way to warehouse and office space which should open by next Spring.

Historical artifacts will go to local museum and archives agencies, the rest will be auctioned off.
