VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re looking for a job, you may want to check out Target. The big US retailer, which is expected to open dozens of stores next spring across Canada, is looking for some new faces.
Target says it’s looking for talented Canadians for “an exciting career in retail.” Each store will employ between 150 and 200 people, so they’re looking for anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 folks in total.
Target has also begun searching pharmacy franchise owners to own and operate pharmacy businesses within as many stores in Canada as possible.
The opening of the stores may be good news for you, the consumer, but it might not be so great for other big retailers like Canadian Tire, Sears, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, and the Joe Fresh brand.
Sears is said to be the most exposed, with significant overlaps in its offerings. On the other hand, discount store Dollarama is apparently a special case, as they offer different items from Target; they may actually benefit.
Last year, Target chose 189 Zellers locations to revamp after buying out the Canadian store’s leases for nearly $1.8 billion. In 2013, 18 of 26 locations will be taken over.
