Government ads irk NDP

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC government is rolling out new 15-second ads that are running during local supper time TV newscasts.  But the NDP is calling the ads “unjustified.”

The ads spell out, among other things, how BC is making life more affordable for families and how the natural gas industry is creating opportunity.

But NDP caucus chair Shane Simpson says the TV ads are a poor example of belt-tightening.

“We’ve just seen the minister of finance tell everybody that our revenues are down dramatically and that we have to show austerity. And then the government is spending an untold amount of money on running ads that really don’t provide much value,” insists Simpson.

Simpson says they are about to file a freedom of information request, to find out exactly how much the government spent on the ads.
