BURNABY (NEWS1130) – An armed car-jacking in Burnaby has led to two arrests in New Westminster after a high speed chase.

Five people have been taken to hospital as a result, including a Mountie.

Coproral Will Wark says it all started near Metrotown when a couple with a handgun held up a man leaving his home. “[They] asked him to empty his pockets. [They stole] his necklace and stole his car keys and fled in the victim’s vehicle.”

“Police flooded the area and were able to locate the victim’s vehicle a short distance away,” he adds.

“The suspect vehicle ran into the rear of a civilian vehicle, which then side-swiped a marked police car that was at the intersection of 10th Street and 6th Avenue,” explains Wark.

The officer in the cruiser sustained minor injuries. The two suspects, along with two others, were also taken to hospital.

The pair is known to police; one of the suspects was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

The gun turned out to be a fake.
