Former city councillor seeks Liberal nomination

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A high-profile candidate is seeking the Liberal nomination in Vancouver-Quilchena.

Suzanne Anton has served as a Vancouver city councillor, Park Board commissioner, and was the NPA’s candidate for mayor during the last civic election.

The current MLA in the riding, former cabinet minister Colin Hansen, has already announced he will not be seeking re-election.

“The BC Liberals have brought British Columbia’s economy into being one of the strongest in the world,” says Anton. “That’s good for everybody in the province.”

“You know, the NDP kicked us over a cliff in the 1990s,” she adds. “We were a ‘have-not’ province at that time and now we’re a strong economy. I would like to support that [Liberal] team.”

Anton says she’s undaunted by current polling numbers that show the Liberals trailing the NDP.

“We will be forming another government under premier Christy Clark,” she believes. “I am confident that BC voters will see what the BC Liberals have done for the provincial economy and how that helps all of us.”

Anton is currently preparing her nomination papers. No date has been set for the actual vote, though she expects it will probably happen in January.

The next provincial election is schedule for May 14th, 2013.
